Lately, all of my posts have been about gig and website updates. This is only great as a sometimes thing… So I figure, it’s time to give something back.

In addition to performing on stage and practicing in my bedroom, I also teach guitar privately and have been doing so for about 8 years. In fact, that’s my main source of income… We all know that nobody can live off moneys from original music. At least not in Australia.

I’ve decided to post up some teaching resources and useful stuff for people looking to learn or improve their guitar abilities.

Attached to this post is the Guitar Pro and PDF file for a little compilation of simple songs that I’ve put together. I plan on adding more to this later. Maybe I’ll update it in a few months…

About this resource

When somebody first learns guitar, I use this resource to:

a.) Teach the fundamentals of reading TAB

b.) Illustrate and teach the use of basic rhythms

c.) Improve dexterity and coordination between right and left hands

d.) Quickly build up basic repertoire and bring about the kind of satisfaction that encourages continual practice on the instrument

Hey strangers!

It has been quite a while in between posts. For this, I am deeply sorry…

On the plus side, heaps of stuff has been going on.

Website maintenance

We’ve finally rewritten my bio and put it up on the About page. No more ‘Needs Updating’. 😀

Gigs

Over the past few weeks, Emma (manager) and I have been hard at working booking gigs near and far. Of those confirmed you can look right to the sidebar. There you will see a a gig at Hive Bar on the 28th from 7:30pm (this Thursday) and the 1st (Sunday) from 4pm, a gig at the Excelsior in Glebe this Saturday night 30th playing with Mirrors in Iceland, and a show at the UNSW Roundhouse in August. We’ve also been booking up into the festival scene. I’ll let you know how it goes. More gigs are still to be confirmed so I’ll keep you posted. (get it?)

Everyday life

I finished my prac at a highschool on friday, so now I’m busy practicing, writing, teaching and reading. Things are looking up. I love being busy, but on my own accord. 😉

Press

On a positive note, I was featured in the Hills Shire Times this week. Here’s the clipping below:

Speak soon.

Welcome!

So I’ve had this domain and webspace for just under a year and a half now with nothing coming out of it. I had an email with a fancy sounding address (@samnewtonmusic.com) but that is all… I wanted to do something with it but just couldn’t find the time/motivation.

A few days ago, I figured enough is enough. I found a nice looking template (courtesy FoxHound Studios) and put my photoshop skills to good use.

My hope is that this can be a homebase from which I can bring together all of my social networks, list all of my gigs, post blogs filled with wisdom and wonder, offer videos and pics and all other information about me and my music.

Also in the works is a mailing list which I’m hoping to get off the ground in the next few weeks.

Hope you enjoy!

P.S. website feedback is more than welcome.
